WoW Mining Guide

When first starting World Of Warcraft there are two main professions that you will need to decide from for you character.  While there are several professions to choose from it's important that you choose one that best suits your character type.  The mining profession is a great choice for characters who wear mail or plate armor. Assuming you have chosen mining, before you start, you are going to need:

1. Mining Skill.

Mining Skills are attained by going to your local mining trainer to be trained.

Miners locations within WoW are:

Alliance Mining Trainers:
Gelman Stonehand: (Dwarven District, Stormwind)
Yarr Hammerstone: (Kharanos, Dun Morogh)
Dank Drizzlecut: (Gol'Boloar Quarry, Dun Morogh)
Geofram Bouldertoe: (The Great Forge, Ironforge)
Kurdram Stonehammer: (Auberdine, Darkshore)
Matt Johnson: (Darkshire, Duskwood)
Brock Stoneseeker: (Thelsamar, Loch Modan)
Muaat: (Traders Tier, Exodar) TBC
Dulvi: (Azure Watch, Azuremyst Isle)
Prospector Nachlan (Blood Watch, Bloodmyst Isle)

Expansion Pack Trainers:
Hurnak Grimmord: (Alliance Trainer - Honor Hold)
Fendrig Redbeard: (Alliance Trainer - Valiance Keep)

Horde Mining Trainers:

Brom Killian: (Horde Trainer - Undercity)
Makaru: (Horde Trainer - Orgrimmar)
Brek Stonehoof: (Horde Trainer - Thunder Bluff)
Belil: (Horde Trainer - Silvermoon City)
Krunn (Razor Hill, Durotar)
Johan Focht (Sepulcher, Silverpine Forest)
Belil (Farstriders' Square, Silvermoon City) TBC

Expanision Pack Trainers:
Krugosh: (Thrallmar)
Jonathan Lewis: (Vengeance Landing)

Neutral Mining Trainers
Pikkle (Gadgetzan, Tanaris)

2. Mining Pick. You can't mine without one and its also interesting to note that mining picks can be enchanted. This however has no real effect on gameplay other than your pick emitting a glow when equipped. Mining Picks can usually be purchased right next to the trainer once you finish training.

3. Gloves. Gloves are an optional choice but I recommend having them when starting out. Get the cheapest gloves that you can find and enchant them with a +5 mining skill - this won't cost anymore than 2g.

+5 mining skill would increase your chances of getting a crystal but having it will reduce the odds of you having a failed attempt.

If your an engineer you can create a goblin helmet and this will add a +5 to your mining skill. This can be handy.

Horde Guide

Tauren: Mulgore: Follow the cliffs all the way. Make sure to visit the Venture Co Mine. Following this route you will get about 40-50 copper.

Orc and Troll: One method that I find to be very rewarding is to simply finish entire circuits of Durotar. But because there is a lot of copper around it might be better to start at Razor Hill then move west towards the Quilboar grounds. If you choose this path make sure to stay along the cliff face until you reach the river. Next, move north until you get to Orgrimmar. Move east from here until you get to a small farmstead. From here head south and go into the canyon. If you head south east from here you will end up back at Razor Hill. When you've completed this you should have about 25-30 copper ores.

Undead: Start from the entrance of DeathKnell. From Deathknell go south and follow the cliffs past the Undercity until you reach bulwark. From bulwark head north towards scarlet monastery. From here go west once you hit the coast, then proceed south and follow the cliffs to Agamand Mills. After Agamand Mills follow the hills south back to the entrace of Deathknell. This run will get you about 30-40 copper ore.

Alliance Guide

Night elves: When starting with Night Elves Darnassus hasn't any ores at all, so your only option should be to go to Darkshore.  Starting from Auberdine go east until you reach the cliffs that are at the top of the map. From here move south huggin the cliff face as you move through this area.  Once you get to the entrance of Ashenvale go west towards the coast and then head north back towards Auberdine. Head east from here until you reach the cliffs, except this time go north once you reach the cliffs. While heading north, following the cliffs, head around the coast going south towards Auberdine. You will find taking this route easier than going the whole route of Auberdine. This will earn you about 40-50 copper ores.

Dwarves and Gnomes: No guide is really necessary for Dwarves and Gnomes because Copper can be found pretty much everywhere.

Human: Starting at the Goldshire, head east to the north of Crystal Lake. When you reach the logging camp, go south. Continuing southward, once you hit the river, follow it to the border of Duskwood and Elwyn forest. From here move north east and you will return to goldshire. If you follow this route and go to atleast 2 mines you will get about 30-40 copper ores.

This guide will get you from level 1-65, but after this you will want to continue leveling up and all of that is covered here in The Ultimate World of Warcraft Guide Below:
